Winter Bird Feeding
Top Tips for Winter Birding:
- Safflower seed can be periodically filled in feeders to deter squirrels as they do not like it, the cardinals and chickadees enjoy safflower seed once in a while and it will keep habitual squirrels away.
- A spicy mix of seed will prevent squirrels as they dislike the taste and smell, but the birds can't taste it at all.
- Try a large capacity feeder during winter months. It will limit the amount of time you have to trudge through the snow.
- A dripper or a bubbler in a birdbath to prevent freezing will be helpful in winter as it is hard to find water.
